Intended Audience

This guide describes how to configure the session manager and session server used in web engines and EJB engines. This guide is intended for system administrators and developers who manage the sharing and maintenance of sessions in a clustered environment or on a single server.

TmaxSoft's JEUS session manager implements the servlet, web, and EJB standards in an effective and flexible way.

Required Knowledge

Users should have the following knowledge to fully understand this guide.

Basic knowledge about sessions.

Working knowledge of HTTP sessions and EJB sessions.

Basic understanding of the composition of JEUS.

Document Scope

This guide does not cover information about the Servlet, EJB, and EE standard specifications.

Document Organization

This guide consists of two chapters.

"Chapter 1. Session Tracking"

Describes the basic concepts of session tracking and the definitions of a session, session ID, session cookie, and URL rewriting.

"Chapter 2. Distributed Session Servers"

Describes the structure, operation, and configuration of distributed session servers that are used for session tracking in a clustered environment.

System Requirements

This guide follows the UNIX style for all examples and screen configurations. Users of other environments, such as Windows, can use this with a few considerations. For example, use the Windows style "\" as the directory delimiter instead of the UNIX style "/". Environment variables should also be changed to Windows style variables This guide primarily discusses Java, so most of the content should apply to all systems.
